This is a painting but incorporates drawing made from my two hands. I used my hands as stencils and copied them onto the paper. This painting was completed two years ago during the pandemic and feel it is very appropriate now during these times; signaling loss of our normalcy which has become laced with the effects of a pandemic and as I write this, our current rains and flooding in Vermont. It is a diptych and each sheet of paper is approximately 12 feet by 4 feet. It was an immediate expression at the time done with urgency and immense feeling.
Yo tengo, yo no tengo meaning I have and I don't have. This is a gesso and charcoal painting with drawing on face of the surface. There is a lot of discernible words while also not easy to read. I term this type of work part of my contemporary graffiti series done with urgency and exuberance. The size of the canvas is 36" by 24".
La monotone is a large drawing and painting made from charcoal and gesso. It is a diptych and means "monotony" from French to English. The work takes on scrawls and lines making it expressionistic and with an immediate force of energy. This signals a malaise and ennui of life and as much as it is pessimistic the drawing shows signs of life's resilience.
