Artwork:

Carved marble fireplace surround based on USGS map elevation lines of the site and using marble from the other side of the mountain. About eight feet high at the top corner.

This is titled Red Wing and refers to the systems of shingling in birds wings.

Titled Still Center. This is part of a body of work which refers to fiber, textile and cordage construction.

This a photo in my studio showing a range of the fiber based pieces. The farm where my studio is based is also a fiber research farm (affiliated with UVM) where fiber hemp and flax is grown and sheep are raised. The interest is sustainable fibers and how to grow and process them. For me this sculptural territory includes muscle structure and peeling surfaces away to understand something more deeply.

Crochet structure

Titled, Muscle Cabbage and braid. This is, as most of these are, carved basswood and is a stack of different natural organizational or packing systems. The bass wood is interesting because you can use it for carving, eat the leaves and use a layer of the bark to produce a tough fiber.
