Curious about clay? Want to get your hands dirty? The Current is delighted to welcome you into our ceramic studio for drop-in open studio sessions on Mondays from 3:00-5:00. No experience required- this free-flowing class is all about getting your hands in the clay and exploring this tactile and versatile medium in a low pressure setting. With the guidance of Ceramic Studio Manager, Maddy Bertrand-Gerndt, students will explore handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques, experiment with new ideas and experience the messy joy of the ceramic studio for themselves!
Please note: Due to the flexible nature of drop-in scheduling, The Current strongly encourages students to think of this as a time to learn new skills and explore the material rather than a class devoted to the creation of finished products.
The nature of ceramic art is such that a finished product cannot be achieved in a single session.
Typically it takes a minimum of 3 sessions to create finished ceramic art: one to build, the second to trim, and the third to glaze. Several days of drying time are needed in between each session to allow the clay to harden in preparation for the next step.
We are only able to store and care for artwork made in Ceramic Open Studio time for 1 week after each session. If you would like to use this time to create finished artwork please sign up for 3 or more consecutive sessions or contact us to schedule a series of private lessons in the ceramic studio.
