This course takes students through the fundamentals of working with water-soluble oil paints, beginning with the preparation of paper or canvas, color theory and mixing, and textural brushstrokes. This foundational course places emphasis on the technical skills involved in painting with oils, and participants should expect to learn when and how to use different brushes, palette knives, and mediums. Participants will also learn techniques for capturing light and shadow, as well as how to layer brushstrokes to create the illusion of space and depth in their paintings.
