Learn the basics of using a camera and the fundamentals of image composition in this exciting new class. Throughout this course, students will practice essential skills like how to hold a camera, adjust focus, and understand lighting to capture clear and well-composed photos. Hands-on activities will provide context for the references to film photography that permeate every aspect of the medium to this day. Students will gain a complete understanding of the factors that affect an image and how they can be manipulated both in the moment of photography and after the fact in editing programs.
Creative prompts and assignments will lead students to explore composition techniques like framing, perspective, and the rule of thirds to help them create interesting and balanced images. Through experimentation with different angles and subjects, from everyday objects to nature scenes, students will develop a photographer’s eye for beauty and composition, learning to see the story in every shot and discovering their unique photographic style.
