Fall 2023- Spring 2024 Youth + Teen Afterschool Arts Education:

The Current is delighted to present our 2023-2024 Youth + Teen Afterschool Arts Education schedule for ages 4-18. Join us for an array of unique classes in fused glass, painting, ceramics, woodworking, and more! We take pride in offering high-quality art programming that seamlessly integrates core subjects such as physics, natural science, and history with expert art instruction and a mastery-based curriculum. Our afterschool classes offer young learners a chance to experiment with different artistic mediums, interact with seasoned artists, and hone their creative problem-solving skills in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

In addition to our wide range of a la carte classes and open studio hours, The Current offers semester- and year-long Studio School programming. Studio School at The Current is a future-focused program, rooted in Europe’s oldest art academies and dedicated to empowering students not only with transferable, universally applicable skills such as creative problem-solving and flexible thinking, but also with tenacity, resilience, and independence of thought that they’ll be able to rely on as they pursue life goals. In our core Studio School Youth Art Academy and Teen Art Academy, students will evolve their two-dimensional drawing and painting skills through technique-focused exercises, studying contemporary and historical artists, and iterative processes. Learners in our fall Teen Ceramics Studio School, led by potter Maddy Bertrand-Gerndt, will hone their wheelthrowing skills and discover unique glaze interactions and techniques by creating mugs, cups, tableware, and more. Our winter-spring Youth Design and Build Studio School will foster skills in woodworking, 3-D printing, digital modeling, and mixed-media sculpture through individual and collaborative building challenges, making it perfect for budding woodworkers, architects, and engineers.
