no.2 (from In-a-bind series); 2019; paper collage (interfacing, ink, photo, pastel, graphite, printed paper); 6(w) feet x 5.5(h) feet; In this work, areas of black-white, concave-convex support the narrative of conflict of thoughts. The emotions from it are represented using Interfacing-of-fabric, which has skin-like aesthetics. Suggestions of fragmentation and vulnerability are made by attaching personal photos of skin rash, drawings of anxious nerves and processing of the material. Additionally, the plant recalls childhood memories of itch and rash from its contact.
tilt#1 (from Box Series); 2023; installation (drawing tools, photo, printed paper, wood, hardware cloth); 5(w)feet x 6.4(h)feet x 1.8(d)feet; The investigation extends in depth through the Box Series which is inspired by the open cardboard box. In this series, reference to the inner struggle from conflicting thoughts is made by evoking human-like form in tensile stances. In ‘tilt#1’, work panels are arranged creating a strained posture and displayed to heighten tension. The small growth spirals portray population crisis whereas the DNA helix made by pasting family photos on metal strip represents ancestry. The fingerprints attest to the personal nature of the works and emotions are captured through interfacing-of-fabric.
Installation of small-scale paper collage series; 2024; display area: 8.7(w) feet x 1.9(h) feet; each work: 24(w) inches x 17(h) inches x 1(d) inches; In this series, the geometric shape - on the print of the found metal cover - is countered by the organic shaped thought bubble symbol. As the series progresses the thought bubble is activated to express the internal discomfort. The series is generated by varying spatial relations and development of the narrative.
no.3 (from installation series - using motif); 2024; installation (drawing tools, interfacing, photo, silk cord, degummed silk cocoons); 2.8(w) feet x 7(h) feet x 7(d) inches; The works of this series revisit the earlier large-scale paper collages (2018-2023) and utilize the motif which not only gives form to internalized thoughts but also points to the mental sphere. The motif of various sizes is hand-shaped from paper and arranged in ceiling, wall display, representing thoughts as floating ideas. Materials such as natural degummed silk and silk-cord create the cocoon-like structure.
