"This is how I imagine it" is a site-nonspecific work that transforms the interior of a rented Penske box truck (and its immediate surroundings) into an installation, performance venue and a space of communal encounter. A pile of soil, construction lights, video of the iconic Linden Cogeneration Plant on the New Jersey Turnpike, machine-read text on cassette, music by Nomadic War Machine and two humans all share, redefine and continuously reproduce this purpose-built dystopia, conjuring anthropocentric disorientations related to nature, industry and collapse. The performers enact an intimate, liberatory presence within the scene, modulating perceptions of the space and its contents, bringing out, over time, a poignant (but not hopeless) narrative that suggests pathways of empowerment in the face of social and ecological fragility.

Centered on expressions of authority, empathy and identity, This is Round One leverages audience expectations by inviting viewers onto the floor in a spirit of confrontation. It becomes a public spectacle about private vulnerabilities.

Tarbox is a solo that uses recorded reading, video projection, a purpose-built set structure and idiosyncratic movement to draw the spectator into a world of private space inspired by John Updike’s Couples.
