About the Event

A great opportunity for high school students! Interested students please email Kelly Holt (gallery@thecurrentnow.org) to reserve a spot.

The Current will be hosting Teaching Artist and poet Rajnii Eddins for an artist residency on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. We are inviting high school students from several schools to self-select to participate in Eddins’s spoken word poetry workshop at the Art Center. Scholarships are available for transportation.

In each session Teaching Artist Rajnii Eddins will hold space for exploring issues of identity, history, social justice, current events, community and the value of shared humanity through creative self- expression and generative writing prompts. Students will learn to write and perform unique poems. It is important that students’ voices be heard as part of this learning experience, and later that evening we will invite students and their families back to The Current to perform in an open mic style event with a special performance by Eddins.

Workshop schedule:

  • 15 minute introductory tour of It often rhymes, an exhibition on the themes of democracy and freedom

  • 45 minute writing workshop with poet Rajnii Eddins

  • Optional tours of the outdoor sculpture exhibition Exposed.

This will culminate in an evening of open mic style performance showcasing the work created by the students and including a reading and Q&A hosted by Rajnii Eddins. Hosted at The Current Tuesday, October 14, 6:00 p.m.
