Selection Notification: May 20, 2026 (via email)

The Current, a center for contemporary art in Stowe, Vermont, invites artists to submit proposals of existing artwork for Exposed, our annual outdoor sculpture exhibition. Selected and town-approved works will be installed throughout the village of Stowe.
About the Open Call
A portion of Exposed features invited artists selected by curator Rachel Moore. Past invited artists include Chakaia Booker, Woody De Othello, Hank Willis Thomas, and Oren Pinhassi, among others. This year the invited artists are Mary Mattingly, Miles Greenberg, Matsuyama Tomokazu, Christopher Curtis, and John Matusz. Additional works are selected through this juried open call.
In addition to sculptural objects, we encourage broad and innovative approaches to sculpture, including but not limited to site-specific installations, interventions, and participatory or exchange-based works. There may also be opportunities for artists to collaborate with local businesses.*
Sculptures will be installed on The Current grounds and along Stowe’s Main Street, as assigned by the curator. The anticipated summer audience for this area exceeds 500,000 visitors.
Artists may apply in any medium suitable for outdoor public display for up to four months. All object-based sculptures must be securely mounted at the designated site, and all work must be safe for children and pedestrian traffic. All proposals will be reviewed for structural and safety considerations, including consultation with a civil engineer.**
Each selected artist will receive a $1,000 stipend to help offset transportation costs, to be paid upon installation. There are no geographic restrictions; however, artists are responsible for transportation, installation, de-installation, and returning the site to its original condition. Artwork will be insured by The Current while on view; artists are responsible for their work during transit and installation periods.
Each sculpture will be identified with a nameplate provided by The Current. A printed walking tour map, audio tours, and a comprehensive interactive website will support the exhibition. The Current will share artist information with media outlets and promote the exhibition through its website and platforms including Bloomberg Connects. Staff will monitor artwork weekly; however, artists remain responsible for maintenance and repairs as needed.
The Current will produce a full-color catalog and professional photography of all exhibited works. Artist participation in providing materials and information is expected.
Artists are responsible for assigning a retail price for their work. The Current retains a 40% commission on sales.
