Are you inspired to make change and care for the environment?
Do you like making art and learning from creative people who care about the world around them?
Join us for an exciting new program that explores how art can help us care for our community and the environment. You’ll make art alongside professional artists and environmental field experts, take part in hands-on projects, and enjoy fun conversations about creativity, nature, and taking action.
The Spring 2 Art + Action class is inspired by artist Mary Mattingly, whose exhibition Water Writes the Garden will be on view in our galleries during the program. Together, we’ll explore how creativity can make a difference and how artists use their ideas to respond to real-world environmental challenges. Along the way, you’ll begin to see yourself not only as an artist, but as a thoughtful member of your community and a caretaker of the planet.
Mary Mattingly’s artwork focuses on water, gardens, ecosystems, and the ways everything on Earth is connected. She creates imaginative structures and floating gardens that encourage people to think differently about resources like water, food, and shelter. Her work will inspire our projects, discussions, and creative experiments throughout the class.
