Drypoint is a direct method of working plates for printmaking. A powerful medium in its own right, drypoint is often added to an etching to create emphatic and powerful darks. Max Beckmann exploited the full range and tonality of drypoint to create his prints. In this class, we will learn about tool use, line, and other materials for abrasion. Participants may work on two plexiglass plates. Lynn will demonstrate wiping and printing the plates. The true richness of drypoint and its unique characteristics occur in the printing. Creating a drypoint from start to finish is one of the best ways to develop a finely tuned eye for the subtleties and nuances of black ink.
