From the Terracotta Warriors of the Qin Dynasty in China to the agrarian sculptures of Syd Carpenter, ceramic art has always been about so much more than tableware. Students in this dynamic sculptural class will study the history of sculptural ceramics, learn various building techniques for making their own large and small-scale creations, and rejoice in the versatility of clay as a multifaceted medium. Throughout this multi-week course, participants will create their own abstract and representational sculptures and learn a variety of decorative techniques, including painting with slip, glaze, and wax resist, to create a wide range of visual effects on their finished pieces.
