Teaching Artist Peggy Smith takes student on a journey through time as they explore the art of the Olmec and Maya Civilizations of Ancient Central/South America! Students in this class will explore the handbuilding techniques used by these sophisticated ancient artisans as they learn about the history and culture of Maya and Olmec society. This beginner-friendly class will give students the opportunity to work with slab and coil-building techniques, experiment with a variety of colored slips and glazes, and make combine form and function to make beautiful vessels and sculptures.
