Studio School at The Current is a unique, after-school art intensive rooted in the traditions of Europe’s oldest art academies such as the Academy in Paris. Founded on the core belief that art-making not only consists of a set of teachable skills, but is also an essential and elevated course of study, The Academy and its Art Salons functioned as the cultural center of the European art world for centuries.

Our mastery based curriculum breaks down the components of visual art-making and gives students the tools they need to realize their artistic visions. Students will develop the skills and confidence to realize their artistic visions through drawing exercises, the study of contemporary and historical artists, and iterative processes.

Students in our Teen Art Academy will develop a cohesive body of work based around a single theme, participate in portfolio design and preparation for college readiness, learn how to preserve and document their artwork, and submit finished pieces to national and international art competitions. Participants will explore mediums such as gouache, charcoal, conte crayon, oil paint, printmaking and more, develop personal artistic goals and collaborate with our expert instructors to address them, and learn from professional artists about the different career paths associated with the arts.

Perfect for the dedicated artist in your life, these extended programs allow students to dive deeper into the concepts and skills that represent the core and center of art-making. Students will also participate in peer feedback sessions, analyze famous works of art, and have the opportunity to display their work as part of the annual Student Art Show at The Current.
