The Studio School at The Current offers a unique after-school art program inspired by Europe’s oldest art academies. Our robust, mastery-based curriculum provides students with the skills and confidence to realize their artistic visions. 
 
Each of the six week sessions of Youth Studio School will focus on a different content area. Beginning with an in-depth exploration of the elements of art, students will learn how to use line, shape, space, texture, form, value, and color effectively to create two dimensional works of art. They will study great artists of the past as well as contemporary artists and notice how these artists use the elements successfully in their work. Principles of Design like balance, proportion, and repetition will be explored in the second session as we expand from painting and drawing, to graphic design and photography. Once they have learned the basics, they will challenge these guidelines to create works that both conform and don’t conform to these style guidelines, by producing posters, paintings, and photographs. Critiques will provide feedback for what works and what doesn’t to challenge the students to find their own voice.
