Perfect for young potters ready to move beyond the mug, this class guides students through wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques for creating complex vessel forms such as water jugs, pitchers, lidded jars, and large bowls. As students journey through the Southwest, exploring each Pueblo community and their interconnected traditions of ceramic artmaking, they will engage with the history of America’s oldest continuous settlements, create their own artwork in the style of black-on-white pottery, and investigate the ways in which contemporary Pueblo artists such as Maria Martinez, Max Early, and Nora Naranjo Morse engage with this rich cultural tradition through their artistic practices.
